Saturday, August 8th was one of those days I know I’ll remember for a long time.
I had the incredible honor of photographing the engagement of two of my closest friends, Mason and Abby, at one of the most beautiful spots in Marblehead, Ohio, at the Marblehead Lighthouse.
There’s something extra special about photographing a moment like this when you know the people standing in front of your camera so well. Mason and Abby aren’t just clients or people I happened to meet through photography. They’re two of my closest friends, which made getting to capture this chapter of their story feel incredibly personal.
With the lighthouse, Lake Erie, and the evening light surrounding them, Mason asked Abby to spend forever with him. And, of course, she said yes.
Watching the two of them step into this next chapter together was such a surreal and meaningful moment to witness. There was so much excitement, happiness, and genuine love between them, and I was lucky enough to be there with my camera to preserve it all.
The day started with my husband, Matthew, and me heading up north to prep for the day. Mason and I tried to stay up-to-date with each other without Abby noticing, which was incredibly difficult!
Eventually, 7:00 p.m. rolled around, and it was time for Matthew and me to head to the lighthouse. I was nervous, not so much for the proposal itself, but because some of my favorite people were starting a new chapter that I couldn’t wait to be a part of.
8:00 p.m., Mason and Abby parked, and the anticipation started. I was shaking; Matthew was shaking; I can only imagine how they felt! Eventually, Abby and Mason headed down the stairs next to the lighthouse. They took a seat and soaked it the moment, Abby knew what was happening. After a few moments, they stood up, went to their spot, and the proposal began!
A few tears were shed, Abby said yes, and we couldn’t wait to celebrate!
Mason and Abby, I couldn’t be happier for you both. Getting to photograph such an important moment in your relationship was an absolute honor, and I’m so excited to watch your story continue to unfold.
